About this print

Birmingham map poster

Birmingham grew up fast in the hills of north-central Alabama, built around iron and steel and shaped by the ridges and valleys that surround it. Red Mountain rises along the city's southern edge, where the statue of Vulcan has looked out over downtown for generations. The city's industrial past still shows in places like Sloss Furnaces, now a landmark and gathering spot, and its history runs deep through the Civil Rights District and Kelly Ingram Park. Today the city is also known for its food, its neighborhoods, and the green space of Railroad Park near the center of town.

This print is a street map poster of Birmingham in the Overprint style, a visual design treatment that gives the city's grid and winding hillside roads a bold, graphic character. It reads as a piece of art first, a way to keep the shape of a familiar place on the wall rather than a tool for finding the way around. For anyone who grew up in Birmingham, went to school there, or built a life there, it can stand in for a lot of memories at once.

A city map makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has just moved to the area or recently moved away, and it suits a home office, entryway, or living room equally well. It fits alongside other prints in a gallery wall or works on its own. Birmingham has a story that people who love it are glad to talk about, and this poster gives that story a quiet, lasting spot in the home.

City Map Posters

RadMaps city map posters turn a place you know by heart into wall art: its streets, parks, rivers and shoreline, drawn from real map data and composed to read from across the room rather than to navigate by. The collection covers big cities and small ones, from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and London to Nashville, Seattle, Austin, Indianapolis, Siesta Key and Danville, Illinois. Each city is designed as its own print, with type and color chosen to suit that place, and Philadelphia comes in three editions: risograph, brutalist and classic. City posters make thoughtful housewarming gifts, a way to remember where you met or where you grew up, and a wall piece for anyone who has moved away from somewhere they love. Every design is printed and shipped within the United States in a range of sizes and finishes, from archival matte posters to framed prints, wall hangings, aluminum and acrylic. Don't see your city?
