About this print

Boston Marathon 2026 map poster

The Boston Marathon course is one of the few road routes that people can picture without a map in front of them. It runs point to point rather than in a loop, starting out in Hopkinton and working east through Ashland, Framingham, Natick and Wellesley, then over the Newton hills and through Brookline before the final turns into Boston. The route drawn here covers 26.4 miles with roughly 520 feet of climbing, which undersells how much the elevation shapes the day: the early miles fall away quickly, and the hills arrive late, after mile 16, when legs are already spent.

That shape is why the course has the reputation it does. Heartbreak Hill is the last of the Newton rises, and everything after it is a long gradual descent toward the finish on Boylston Street. Runners who have raced it tend to talk about the course in pieces — the crowded start corrals, the noise coming out of Wellesley, the moment the Citgo sign comes into view — and a map of the whole line holds all of those pieces in one place.

This print was built from the mapped route geometry, so the line follows the actual roads rather than a stylized approximation. It suits someone who ran Boston in 2026, someone who has been chasing the qualifying standard, or a household where Patriots' Day means standing at a curb in April. It is made as wall art rather than a navigation tool, meant to be looked at long after the race number has been put away.
