About this print
Knoxville map poster
Knoxville is a city shaped by its river. The Tennessee River begins here, formed where the Holston and French Broad meet, and the downtown grid climbs the bluffs above its north bank. This print in the Painted Survey edition is a portrait of that city: a street map of Knoxville, Tennessee, made to hang on a wall rather than to guide anyone anywhere.
For many people the name brings specific places to mind. There is Market Square and the brick storefronts of Gay Street, and the University of Tennessee campus with its orange-clad football Saturdays. The Sunsphere, a gold globe left from a World's Fair, still stands above the old fairgrounds. Old neighborhoods spread out along the ridges, and the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains rise not far to the southeast. Whether someone grew up here, studied here, or moved away and still thinks of it as home, a map of the city holds a lot of personal history in a small space.
The Painted Survey edition is a visual design style with a softer, painterly character that suits a city of hills, water, and tree-lined streets. It works well in a living room, a home office, or a dorm, and it makes a thoughtful gift for a graduate, a new homeowner, or a friend who has relocated and misses East Tennessee. Like every RadMaps poster, it is decorative art meant to celebrate a place, not a navigation tool. The available sizes and options are listed on this page.
