About this print
Grand Rapids map poster
Grand Rapids grew up along the Grand River, and the river still sets the rhythm of the place, with downtown on the east bank, the West Side across the water, and a run of bridges tying the two together. The city earned the nickname Furniture City for its long history of furniture making, and that working character carries through its brick warehouses, old neighborhoods and busy commercial corridors. More recently it has become known for its breweries, the medical campus along Michigan Street often called the Medical Mile, and the art that spreads through town during ArtPrize. It is Michigan's second-largest city, yet it still feels like a place where people know their own corner of it well.
The Blueprint edition takes its visual cues from the clean, drafted look of architectural plans. The result treats the street grid as a piece of design, calm and orderly, with an engineered quality that suits a city built on making things. It sits comfortably in a home office, a hallway or a living room, and works as well among modern furnishings as among older wood and brick.
This print tends to find its way to people with a real tie to the city: those who grew up there, moved there for work or school, met someone there, or carried it with them after leaving Michigan. It makes a thoughtful housewarming or graduation gift for anyone who calls Grand Rapids home. It is intended as decorative art for the wall, not as a map for finding the way around.
