About this print

White Rim map poster

The White Rim Trail traces a sandstone bench partway down into the canyons of Canyonlands National Park, circling the Island in the Sky mesa with the Green River on one side and the Colorado on the other. The mapped route here runs 100.1 miles with about 11,460 feet of climbing, and the shape of it tells the story: long, quiet stretches of desert flat punctuated by the drops and grinds that riders talk about afterward, from the Shafer switchbacks to Murphy Hogback, Hardscrabble, and the climb out at Mineral Bottom.

It draws mountain bikers most of all, usually over two to four days with a support vehicle, though plenty of people take it on in a single long push, and runners and hikers cover sections of it too. Permits come from the park, water has to be carried or hauled, and the route rewards planning more than speed. That mix of logistics and scenery is part of why finishing it sticks with people.

This version is drawn in the Risograph edition style, a bold, limited-palette treatment with flat color and high contrast that suits the banded rock and open space of southeast Utah. Hung at home or in a shop, it reads as a graphic shape first and a map second, which is the point: it is decorative art rather than anything to navigate by. For someone who has ridden it out of Moab, or who has the permit application saved and waiting, it keeps the loop in view year round.
