White Rim Trail Map Poster — Desert Edition

About this print

White Rim map poster

The White Rim is a roughly 100.1-mile loop through the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park, just outside Moab. It traces a bench of pale sandstone that sits partway down the canyon system, with the Green River on one side and the Colorado on the other and red rock towers standing above the road. Most people take it on over two to four days by mountain bike or four-wheel-drive vehicle, though it also draws runners and hikers willing to carry water. The climbs give the route its reputation: the Shafer switchbacks, Murphy Hogback, Hardscrabble, and the long pull up Mineral Bottom add to about 11,460 feet of gain across the loop, spread out over country with no shade and no services.

This Desert Edition is a design treatment of the mapped route, styled after its setting rather than after a standard topo sheet. The styling is digital, printed by a production partner, and meant to hang as art rather than guide anyone through the canyons.

It suits someone who has ridden the loop and still remembers the hours above the river, or someone saving for a permit and planning the trip. Hung in an office, a garage with bikes in it, or a hallway, a route this recognizable tends to start conversations with anyone who has spent time in southern Utah. For a trip that is mostly remembered in fragments, a map of the whole circuit puts the days back in order.
