About this print
Des Moines map poster
Des Moines grew up where the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers meet, and that meeting point still shapes how the city feels. Iowa's capital and largest city has a compact downtown with an enclosed skywalk system that keeps people moving through cold winters, and the gold-domed State Capitol watches over it from the east side of the river. Beyond the core, the streets fan out into older neighborhoods, the Drake University area, riverside trails and parks, and the fairgrounds that fill up every summer for the Iowa State Fair. It is a city people tend to describe in terms of familiar routines: a walk along the river, a Saturday farmers market downtown, a favorite corner diner, a drive home on a route that never needs a map.
The Brutalist edition is a visual style built on weight and contrast. Bold forms, heavy blocks and a stripped-back graphic attitude give the city's layout a strong, architectural presence, closer to modern design than to a traditional road map. It suits rooms with clean lines, concrete or industrial touches, or anyone who likes art with some backbone.
This print makes sense for people who live in Des Moines and want their city on the wall, for those who grew up there and moved away, or for anyone with a soft spot for Iowa's capital after a stint at school or work. It also works as a housewarming or graduation gift for someone starting out in the city. The poster is decorative art, meant to be looked at and remembered by, not used for finding the way.
