About this print
Mobile map poster
Mobile sits where the Mobile River meets the head of Mobile Bay, on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, and its streets carry a long history. The city is one of the oldest in the region, and its downtown keeps a mix of older brick buildings, iron balconies and live oaks that give it a character all its own. It is also known as the home of the oldest Mardi Gras celebration in the United States, a tradition that fills the streets each year with parades and music.
This print presents Mobile's street map in the Overprint style, a graphic look that treats the city's layout as a piece of design rather than a guide. The grid of the older center, the roads reaching outward toward the suburbs, and the shape of the water nearby all suit a style that leans on pattern and color. The result is a poster that reads first as art on the wall and second as a portrait of a particular place.
For someone who grew up in Mobile, studied there, or still calls it home, a map like this can hold a lot of memory in a quiet way: the route to a first apartment, the way to a favorite seafood spot, the drive along the bay. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a friend or relative with roots on the Gulf Coast. As with every RadMaps print, it is meant for decoration and enjoyment, not for finding the way around town.
