About this print

Durham map poster

Durham is a city that wears its history in brick. The tobacco warehouses and mills that once made it an industrial town now hold offices, restaurants, and apartments, and the downtown streets around them have filled with life again. It is home to Duke University and North Carolina Central University, shares the Research Triangle with Raleigh and Chapel Hill, and gives its name to the Durham Bulls, a minor league baseball team known well beyond the state. The Eno River runs along its northern side, so woods and water are never far from town.

This print presents Durham's street map in the Overprint style, one of RadMaps' visual design editions. It treats the city's streets as a graphic pattern as much as a map, with bold, overlapping bands of color that give familiar routes a fresh, poster-like character. The result reads as art first, something to hang in a living room, hallway, or office rather than to plan a drive by. It is meant purely for display, not for navigation.

The Bull City tends to stay with people. Students arrive for a few years and leave with a lasting attachment, families put down roots in neighborhoods they come to love, and plenty of people who moved away still talk about the place they used to call home. This poster suits any of them, whether as a gift for a new graduate, a housewarming present for someone just settling in, or a reminder of the city on a wall far from North Carolina.
