About this print

Laredo map poster

Laredo sits on the north bank of the Rio Grande, facing Nuevo Laredo across the river, and few American cities wear their border history as openly. It is one of the oldest cities in Texas, and its Spanish colonial roots still show in the old plazas downtown, while the bridges across the river make it one of the busiest crossing points between the United States and Mexico. Its street grid tells the story of a place that grew outward from the river, block by block, into the wide South Texas brushland.

This print renders Laredo in the Painted Survey style, a visual design that pairs the order of a city map with a softer, painterly feel. The result reads as artwork first, something to hang where it can be looked at over time rather than consulted for directions. It is a decorative piece and isn't meant for navigation.

For someone who grew up in Laredo, moved away, or still drives its streets every day, a map of the city can carry a lot of quiet meaning: the neighborhood of a first house, the route to a grandparent's place, the way to the river. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a family member who has left South Texas but still talks about home, or for anyone with ties to both sides of the border. Laredo has a character all its own, warm, bilingual, rooted in centuries of history, and this poster gives that sense of place a home on the wall.
