About this print
Milwaukee map poster
Milwaukee sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan, where the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic rivers meet before reaching the lake. That meeting of water and land has shaped the city from the start, and a street map of Milwaukee carries the outline of a place built around rivers, a harbor and a long stretch of shoreline. This print renders the city in the Blackline style, a clean, graphic look that suits a map built on a mostly regular grid broken up by water.
For anyone who has lived here, the city is easy to picture: the Third Ward's old warehouse blocks, the lakefront and its parks, Bay View to the south, the East Side near the university, and neighborhoods that each have their own corner taverns and churches. Milwaukee is known for its brewing history, its summer festival grounds by the lake, and the Calatrava-designed wing of the Milwaukee Art Museum on the water. A map of the city holds all of that in the background, even as plain lines and shapes.
The poster works well as a reminder of a hometown, a college city, or the place where a family put down roots. It fits a living room, an office or a hallway, and it makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has moved away and still says "Milwaukee" a little differently than everyone else. It is meant as decorative art for the wall, not as a guide for getting around.
