About this print

Winston-Salem map poster

Winston-Salem is a city with two names and one story. The town of Salem was founded by Moravian settlers in the eighteenth century, and Winston grew up beside it as a tobacco and textile center before the two joined in the early twentieth century. That history still shapes the place. Old Salem preserves the brick and timber buildings of the original settlement, while the former factory districts downtown have been turned into offices, apartments, and research space. It is a city where Moravian stars hang on porches in December and where the smell of a Krispy Kreme shop, a brand born here, can still stop people on the sidewalk.

This poster renders Winston-Salem's street grid in the Overprint edition, a digital design style that treats the city as a graphic composition of lines and color. It suits a place whose layout tells its own history, from the orderly plan of the old Moravian town to the streets that spread outward as the city grew. The result reads as art first. It makes a good fit for a living room, a home office, or a hallway that could use something with a personal connection.

The print makes sense for anyone who has called Winston-Salem home, whether they grew up in the Piedmont, studied at Wake Forest, trained at one of the city's arts schools, or simply spent a few good years there. It also makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has moved away and misses the place. As with every RadMaps print, it is meant as decoration rather than a guide for getting around.
