About this print

Madison map poster

Madison is a city shaped by water. It sits on a narrow isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, and that pinched strip of land gives the place its particular rhythm, with streets running toward the shoreline in nearly every direction and the Wisconsin State Capitol rising near the center. For anyone who has lived here, studied here, or simply spent a good summer weekend walking around the Capitol Square, the layout of this city carries a lot of memory.

It's a capital city and a university town at once. The University of Wisconsin–Madison stretches along the south shore of Lake Mendota, and generations of students have come and gone through its campus, many of them leaving with a lasting attachment to the city. Beyond campus there are lakeside paths, neighborhood corners, Saturday mornings at the farmers' market around the Capitol, long winters, and the bike culture the city is known for. A street map is a quiet way to hold onto all of that, the grid and the curves of a place that once felt like home or still does.

This print belongs to the Blackline edition, one of the design styles in the RadMaps collection, and it treats Madison as a piece of decorative art rather than a guide for getting around. It suits an alumni office, a first apartment after graduation, a gift for someone who just moved away, or a living room wall for people who never plan to leave. The size and finish options are listed on this page.
